Researching how to store your Will can be a daunting task. Below are some quick links to get you started.

  • By doing this your Will is guaranteed to not get lost.
  • Wills will be checked by an authorised professional to ensure they are properly signed before they are entered into storage.
  • Only your Executors will be allowed to withdraw the Will from storage after your death.
  • A potentially disappointed beneficiary cannot destroy the Will, as they will not have access to it.
  • All documents are scanned, and electronic copies will be used in application to probate if required.
  • Your Executors will be aware of what documents are in storage and how, when the time comes, they can return the documents after your death or deaths.

Your Will is the most important document you will ever make, and what you do with it once you have signed it needs careful consideration. By choosing to store your Will (and other legal documents) within with our secure storage facility we will guarantee the following:

  • Your Will can be easily accessed when the time comes
  • Only your nominated Executors can access your Will when the time comes
  • Your Will is both legally valid and has been executed correctly

Planning in advance ensures that both your financial affairs and personal welfare are in safe hands if the worst were to happen.

Will Storage - Frequently Asked Questions

If your Will cannot be found after you have passed away, the Law presumes that you have destroyed, it and that its content is no longer relevant. This could have devastating consequences for your chosen beneficiaries.

In the event of this happening, there are two possible outcomes. The first is that any previous Will found will be used. Alternatively, the Government will draft a Will for you, and your Estate will be divided according to the Laws of Intestacy.

The importance of secure Will storage cannot be overstated for this reason.

The ideal solution is to store official documents in secure units, as recommended by your Will writing consultant.

At HB Partners Wills and Estate Planning, all our clients' documents are stored off-site in a secure storage unit, and as an added precaution, all signed documents to be stored are scanned in advance, and those scanned copies are filed in our secure server.

Once you have written your Will, we recommend that you store it in a secure facility for the reasons below:

At HB Partners, our advisers can advise you on all aspects of Will planning and storage

What will I receive after storing my documents with you?

We will provide you with confirmation and full details of the documents held in storage, which you should then pass onto your nominated Executors for safekeeping.

We will also supply detailed information, advising where the documents are stored and how to retrieve them when required.

Should you subsequently require your documents to be removed from storage, you will need to make this request in writing. Where documents relate to more than one party, we will require both named parties to sign the request.

Once we have confirmed that your storage payments are up to date, we will retrieve your documents from storage. The documents will be posted to you, using the signed-for service on delivery.

What happens if I require to take my documents out of storage?

Who can access my Will when the time comes?

The consequences of a Will falling into the wrong hands can be deeply distressing to the surviving family members of the deceased. For this reason, you need the peace of mind, knowing that your Will remains safe until the event of your passing, and that only your chosen Executors know precisely where your Will is located.

Using our storage service ensures that your Will is kept safe and will be released to your Executors at the time of your death. This also ensures that the content of the document is kept private until death occurs.

Your Executor(s) will be provided with a certificate confirming that your Will is in secure storage, but a copy will not be released to them until after your death. Your wishes will only be made known to your Executors after you have passed away.
